My name is Dr. Yolanda Yvette Young-Riley, and I am married (25 years) to Nakika Merdeia Riley of Beaufort County, and Minister of Music at the Mt. Carmel Church of Dale, SC, and Field Operations Supervisor at Beaufort Jasper Water and Sewer Authority. Together, we have 2 beautiful daughters, who are both honor students, each testing into the early college, dual enrollment program at 14. In 2018, Nickayla Mon’e Riley, graduated from Whale Branch Early College High School, with two degrees (Associate of Arts and Associate of Science), and five certificates, from Whale Branch Early College High School (top ten, #5 in class), entering the College of Charleston as a Junior, and graduated from the College of Charleston,(Major: Biology and Double Minors, Crime, law and Society, and Healthcare Medical Management Services) in 2020, and has worked with Charleston County Coroner’s office, where she completed an internship, and is now employed with the Medical University of South Carolina, as a Lab Science Associate. She has further aspirations of completing her Master’s Degree In Pharmacology, with a Specialty in Forensic Sciences, with further aspirations of being a Deputy Coroner, and/or Medical Examiner, and Nickindra Riley, continuing as a Senior, also (at 13), tested into the Dual enrollment, Early College program, at Whale Branch Early College High School, with aspirations of joining the United States air Force, upon graduating, in 2023, and is now a part of The Pinckney Foundation, Presbyterian Girls State Full ride Scholar, 4H leadership program, Beaufort Memorial Rising Stars-Volunteer Internship Program, 4-H Congress, Cheerleading Co-Captain, HOSA, National Society of High School Scholars, and National Society of Future Medical Scientist, as well as both being cofounders, owners, and entrepreneurs of KiKatoure online store. Nickindra is also, now, an alumni, recently graduating from the Technical College of the Lowcountry, as a dual enrollment student, with an Associates of Arts, Associates of Science, Certificates, as well as Certificate in Biotechnology, and will continue her endeavors to obtain a Bachelors in Pharmacy.
About The Teacher.......After graduating from Battery Creek High School, (class of 1993), Beaufort County School District, I earned my Associate of Arts, and Bachelors of Interdisciplinary Studies Degree from the University of South Carolina Beaufort, (Human Services, a culmination of Psychology, Sociology, and Education), and Masters of Science Elementary Education, with a specialty in Language and Literacy from Wheelock College, Boston, Massachusetts, and later pursuing and obtaining my Ed.S , (Education leadership), and Ed.D, Educational Administration and Superintendence, from South Carolina State University, where my dissertation focused on Teacher Quality on Student Achievement, Devising Curriculum for improvised students through the arts, along with passing the Administration Praxis in 2010.
As a strong advocate for the dichotomy of teaching and learning, and solid student structures that promote the best climate for learning, I have been teaching for 19 years, with an overwhelming amount of student success, and am a career changer. I have had the pleasure of working with the Department of Social Services, Head Start as a part of Family Services team, at both the University of South Carolina Beaufort, Library, and The Beaufort County Library, as a circulation representative, and a volunteer coordinator, James J Davis Elementary as a teacher and instructional coach, Lady’s Island Elementary as a teacher, Life House Child Development Center as a Director, Burke Middle High as Program Coordinator, Northside Elementary as an Academic interventionist, my first teaching appointment, West Hardeeville Elementary(2002), teacher, and Hardeeville Elementary, teacher, Ridgeland Elementary (teacher), and now at Hardeeville Junior Senior High School (science and math teacher).
I am sure I will meet my previous students, and peers, and expectations, remain the same, we are working to bridge disparaging gaps, as we bring to life potential that may have lied dormant. I look forward to working with you, as we work in a partnership to assist and aid each child in succeeding, in a climate of trust, and under an umbrella that allows everyone to utilize both their intrinsic gifts and talents.
