A Bit about me!
I started teaching 3rd grade in Ridgeland, South Carolina. I have held a teaching certificate for 14 years, and I have been in the field for 20 years. Before teaching, I served in the United States Navy as a Dental Technician for five years with an Honorable Discharge. I was married to a Naval Officer for 20 years, and I have two very smart boys Salaam and Rashaun, 26 and 36 respectively. I changed my career field because Salaam was born hearing-impaired and I believed I could best advocate for his special needs if I had the inside scoop. I became a part of a system I did not trust to educate my bi-laterally hearing impaired son. I’m proud to say, he graduated high school and college with honors! Every child can learn! I have proof!
I hold a Master of Science in Foundations of Education and a Master of Science in Educational Technology. I also have a BA in Psychology. I am Highly Qualified on my teaching certification! All of this has increased my ability to lead within my school and the district. My targeted goal this year (2018-19) is to elevate weaknesses on the information highway and create an added dimension to my lesson plans for my 6th graders. Wish me luck as I start this new school year with our Jasper County students!
