The HRMS Math Department celebrated "Pi Day" on Thursday, March 14. Pi Day is celebrated around the world on March 14th (3/14) because Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. Pi Day is an annual opportunity for math enthusiasts to talk to their friends about math and to eat pie, due to a pun based on the words "pi" and "pie" and the circular shape of a pie The earliest known large-scale celebration of Pi Day was in 1988 at the San Francisco Exploratorium science museum.
